How it works
How a family legend is made
Most families read their free preview within ten minutes of starting.
- 1
Add your family characters
Create a character for each person or pet you want in your stories: their name, how they're related, their age and pronouns.
Upload a clear, front-facing photo and we draw a storybook portrait. The photo is used once and then deleted. If you'd rather not use a photo, describe them in words instead.
You can keep up to 8 characters and choose up to 3 for each story.
- 2
Choose the heritage language
Pick one of 25 languages. Every page is written in English and that language, in its own script, with right-to-left layout for Arabic, Farsi and Hebrew.
Translations are written to sound natural when read aloud, not word for word, and your family's names always stay your family's names.
- 3
Shape the story with our storyteller
Tell our storyteller your idea in your own words, or start from an idea like a journey to the homeland or a grandparent's secret map.
It will ask where the story takes place. The place is your choice and doesn't have to match the language.
- 4
Pick an art style and finishing touches
Choose Watercolour Storybook, Vibrant Cartoon or 3D Animated, add a dedication, and choose whether English or the heritage language comes first on each page.
- 5
Read your free preview
We prepare your characters, write the story, translate it and paint the cover and first three pages, usually in about two minutes. You can read the whole story straight away. You'll see each step as it happens, and you can close the page: we'll email you when it's ready.
Your preview stays in your library for 7 days.
- 6
Unlock the complete book
Unlock the Digital Edition to paint the remaining pages, and download a print-quality PDF with a dedication page, a letter page for your own message and a glossary of words from the story.
If a picture isn't quite right, ask for a new version. Each book includes 3 picture changes, and the earlier versions are kept so you can switch back.
